About

Security professional. Strength and health researcher. Practical self-defense practitioner.

I’ve spent 20+ years working in cybersecurity — which means I’ve also spent 20+ years thinking about how systems get compromised, physical environments get bypassed, and people get caught off guard. That mindset doesn’t stay at the office.

Professionally, I’m a Senior Director of Cybersecurity Engineering managing large-scale security programs. Part of that work has always included physical security — I’ve conducted physical penetration tests of office buildings and data centers, evaluated access control systems, and assessed the real-world gaps between what an organization thinks is secure and what an attacker actually sees when they walk up to the front door. What I write about home security and physical security on this site is grounded in that professional experience.

The self-defense side is personal. I hold a Fourth Degree Black Belt in Kokusai Tora Jutsu Kyokai and have been training and teaching martial arts for 25+ years. A long time ago I competed in sport karate — including at a Vegas tournament where I watched two competitors get knocked out cold. That experience made something clear to me: sport performance and real self-defense are not the same thing. Since then I’ve trained and taught with a practical lens. What actually stops a threat? What works when the distance collapses and you don’t have room to chamber a kick?

On health and fitness — I’m not a doctor or a certified trainer. What I am is someone who has been training consistently for decades, pays close attention to the research, and tests things on himself. The articles on creatine, magnesium, sleep, and strength programming on this site are based on what the science actually says combined with what I’ve actually found to work. I’ll always tell you when the evidence is weak and when I’m speaking from personal experience rather than controlled data.

If you’re here because you want to make your home harder to breach, your body harder to hurt, or your lifestyle harder to disrupt — this is the right place.
